Australia: Army Deployed to Tackle Floods Threatening Thousands of Homes
On 4 February, military troops were deployed to provide aid to Queenstown, after 8 days of extensive rain caused serious flooding. Authorities were forced to fully open the floodgates of the Ross River Dam, deliberately flooding some 2,000 homes in the process. There have been several sightings of saltwater crocodiles in Townsville area and warnings for snakes and other wildlife have also been published by local authorities.
Monitor all instructions issued by the local authorities and prepare for possible transportation disruptions and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding, keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
