News reports have indicated that an Islamic bookstore in Sydney is openly selling Sharia law books, which call for the killing of gay people and non-Muslims, whilst also advocating cutting off the hands of thieves and punishing those who commit adultery with 100 lashes. The Bukhari House Islamic Bookstore in Auburn rents space from the hard-line Sunni group Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah (ASWJ).
In the wake of a series of barbaric Islamic State-linked attacks, some of Australia’s most prominent Muslims have spoken out against terrorism, with one likening it to ‘modern AIDs.’ Following recent attacks in Melbourne, London and Manchester, Muslim leaders have said that Muslims should not carry the blame for acts of terror and noted they were the 'largest victims of terrorism'.
Those operating or residing in Australia are advised to be aware of the threat and presence of terrorism and of extreme lines of thought amongst some groups.
