The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued updated travel advice to warn of planned protests on 12 May. There have been calls for unauthorised protests in Diraz starting at 17:15 local time. There have also been calls for an unauthorised protest in Barbar at 19:00. Demonstrations and protests take place regularly in Bahrain. Protesting may include attempts to disrupt traffic, to rally outside economic centres, throwing Molotov cocktails and the use of improvised explosive devices. As a result, clashes are likely between government security forces and protesters.
Those operating or residing in Bahrain are advised to be aware of the planned protests on 12 May. Avoid large gatherings and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations, due to the credible risk of violence. Heightened security should be anticipated. Monitor local media for more information concerning the protests and possible road closures and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
