Bahrain: Avoid Planned Protests on 19-20 May

FCO warns of planned protests in Bahrain on 19-20 May

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued updated travel advice to warn of planned protests on 19-20 May. There have been calls for unauthorised protests in Al Musalla, Jidhafs, Bilad Al Qadeem, Abu Saiba, Sehla, Nabih Saleh and Al Markh on 19 May. The times for these have not been announced, though will most likely take place after Friday prayers. There have also been calls for an unauthorised protest on 19 May in Barbar at 19:00 local time. On 20 May, there have been calls for unauthorised protests in Bani Jamra at 19:00 local time and in Karranah at 19:30 local time. Demonstrations and protests take place regularly in Bahrain. Protesting may include attempts to disrupt traffic, to rally outside economic centres, throwing Molotov cocktails and the use of improvised explosive devices. As a result, clashes are likely between government security forces and protesters.

Those operating or residing in Bahrain are advised to be aware of the planned protests on 19-20 May. Avoid large gatherings and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations, due to the credible risk of violence. Heightened security should be anticipated. Monitor local media for more information concerning the protests and possible road closures and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
