The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued updated travel advice to warn of planned protests between 20-22 April. There have been called for commemoration visits to the Shaikh Maytham Cemetery in Um Al Hassam on 20 April. There have been calls for unauthorised protests on the situation in Syria on 21 April, although no time or location has been confirmed. There have also been calls for an unauthorised protest in Baldat Buri on 22 April, but no exact time has yet been specified. Demonstrations and protests take place regularly in Bahrain. Protesting may include attempts to disrupt traffic, to rally outside economic centres, throwing Molotov cocktails and the use of improvised explosive devices. As a result, clashes are likely between government security forces and protesters.
Those operating or residing in Bahrain are advised to be aware of the planned protests between 20-22 April. Avoid large gatherings and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations, due to the credible risk of violence. Heightened security should be anticipated. Monitor local media for more information concerning the protests and possible road closures and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
