Chile: Students Plan to Demonstrate on 1 June
Planned protests in numerous cities across Chile on 1 June
On 31 May, the US Embassy in Santiago issued a security message to advise that the Confederation of Students of Chile (CONFECH) has called for multiple demonstrations in many cities across Chile on 1 June. In Valparaiso, marches will start at Plaza Sotomayor and end at Parque Italia. In Santiago, marches will begin at Plaza Italia in downtown Santiago and will proceed west on Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins towards Echaurren. Demonstrations are expected to begin at 10:30 local time and may last the duration of the day.
Those operating or residing in Chile are advised to be aware of a series of planned demonstrations in major cities across Chile. During this time, the associated disruptions to travel should be expected in the vicinity of any demonstrations. Avoid all large crowds as even protests which are expected to pass peacefully and without incident can see tensions escalate with little to no warning.
