The disarmament process has officially concluded, as the United Nations (UN) removed the final shipment of weapons from a FARC demobilisation camp, marking the end of a 50-year conflict. Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos said, “With the laying down of arms ... the conflict is truly over and a new phase begins in the life of our nation…This is truly a historic moment for the country.” The UN has gathered 8,112 arms and destroyed 1.3 million cartridges. The weapons will be used to make three monuments celebrating the peace accord. Roughly 7,000 FARC fighters have demobilised under the agreement.
