Local media has reported that renegade soldiers have lifted roadblocks and appeared to have largely returned to their barracks overnight, following a deal announced by the government, of a one-time payment to the soldiers. However, conflicting sources have reported that the agreement announced by the government was rejected by the mutinous soldiers, with sporadic shooting continuing throughout the night between 15-16 May. The security environment remains unstable. Many banks, shops and offices are said to have remained closed due to public fears of further violence.
It is advisable to continue to limit outdoor exposure and to seek safe shelter at the first sign of unrest. Failure by the government to pay the soldiers will likely result in another bout of unrest and violence.
