DR Congo: BDK Militiamen Raid Prison in Kinshasa
50 prisoners escape from Makala prison in Kinshasa
At least 50 people have escaped from the Makala prison in Kinshasa, after armed members of the radical Christian sect Bundu dia Kongo (BDK) raided the prison in an operation to free their leader. Gunfire was reported to have been heard in and around the prison, although it is not yet clear if there were any casualties.
Those operating or residing in Kinshasa are advised to be aware of the latest incident in which 50 prisoners escaped from Makala prison. Expect heightened security in Kinshasa whilst the police search for the escaped convicts. Maintain vigilance and report anything suspicious to the local authorities. Monitor local media for more information and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
