Egypt: Large Military Operation Launched in North Sinai
12 killed and vehicles destroyed in military offensive
On 20 June, a large military operation was carried out by the Egyptian air force, in which they bombed a gathering and site of Sinai-based Islamist militants. The offensive is said to have killed 12 individuals and destroyed several vehicles. Egypt’s military forces have been battling Islamist militants in Sinai for several months.
Those operating or residing in Egypt are advised to refrain from all travel in North and South Sinai governorates and to avoid travelling near to security and government forces, infrastructure and personnel. ISIS are known to have a stronghold in the Sinai Peninsula and frequently kidnap and murder people. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
