Anti Macron protests possible as he wins the Presidential election

It has been announced that Emmanuel Macron has decisively won the French Presidential election, beating the far-right National Front Candidate Marine Le Pen. At 39, Macron will be the country’s youngest President and has vowed to spend his five years in office “fighting the forces of division that undermine France.” Supporters of Macron gathered outside of the Louvre in central Paris to celebrate his victory. Security remains tight in the capital and there were reports of police firing tear gas at several hundred anti-capitalist protesters near the Ménilmontant metro in the 20th arrondissement. There have been calls for anti-Macron protests to take place in Paris on 8 May.
