Police Arrest Knife-Wielding Man at Gare du Nord
On 22 April, French police arrested a knife-wielding 20-year-old man from Mali at Paris’ Gare du Nord station, one day before the Presidential vote. The incident unfolded on the same day in which there was widespread unrest in the capital, with police releasing tear gas after they were attacked with make-shift weapons in a pre-election riot. The arrest also comes days after the ISIS-inspired assassination of a police officer at the Champs Elysee.
Those who plan to travel to or within France are advised to be aware of the latest possible terror incident. France has been the target of numerous Islamic extremist attacks in the past years and the country is on high alert. The atmosphere in France is particularly tense as Presidential elections take place. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities and remain vigilant.
