Gaza: Expect Protests Following Israeli Airstrikes
In the past days, Israel has launched more than 140 attacks after about 150 rockets were fired from Gaza by Hamas. Thousands of Palestinians are now expected to protest in the Gaza strip on 10 August from 14:00 onwards, following the deadly Israeli air strikes. On 8 August, Israel killed three people in Gaza, including a 23-year-old woman who was almost nine months pregnant and her 18-month-old daughter. The protests come a day after Hamas and Israel reached an Egypt-brokered deal to end the recent flare-up in violence.
Israel typically responds to each Gaza attack and hold Hamas responsible, regardless of which group fired. Israel has previously warned Palestinians not to approach its border fence. "The IDF [Israel Defence Forces] is prepared for all scenarios. Stay away from the fence and do not attempt to harm it." Further violent protesting is likely to continue in the near term. Avoid all travel to the Gaza strip and Israel-Gaza border. Seek safe shelter in response to any possible incoming rocket sirens, which are indicated by a rising and falling tone.
