German authorities have arrested a man who is accused of plotting to assassination a senior public figure. The man, a soldier, is also accused of conspiring with another man who had falsely registered as a Syrian refugee and a student. The suspected right-wing extremist was allegedly planning to frame refugees for the attack. Their targets were former German president Joachim Gauck and Justice Minister Heiko Maas.
Those who plan to travel to or within Germany are advised to be aware of the latest arrest of a suspected right-wing extremist. Whilst the arrest does not pose a direct threat to foreign nationals, travellers are nonetheless advised to remain vigilant. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities.
