Germany: Islamist Suspect Arrested Over Borussia Dortmund Football Team Bus Explosions

Islamist-linked suspect arrest in connection with football team bus attack

On 11 April, three explosions hit the Borussia Dortmund team bus whilst they were en route to their Champions League quarter-final match against Monaco. The explosives were hidden at the exit of a hotel and detonated as the bus drove passed. One player was injured during the blast but no one was killed. An Islamist suspect has now been arrested in connection with the incident and the authorities are treating it as a terrorist attack. The explosive devices used in the attack contained metal pins, one of which was found buried in a headrest on the vehicle. The authorities have reportedly found three letters all claiming responsibility for the attack, all of which stated it was carried out in the name of Islam.

Those operating or residing in Germany are advised to be aware of the latest incident in which a football team was attacked. Be aware of current threat of Islamic extremism in the country and of the recent spate of terror attacks on European cities. Report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities and remain vigilant.
