Haiti: Planned Rally and Two Police Officers Injured in Crossfire
On 4 February, two police officers were wounded in shooting in Port-au-Prince after members of the Arnel gang opened fire on several vehicles before stealing goods from a truck near Haiti Electric Company building in the Bicentenaire area of Port-au-Prince. On 5 February, an opposition rally is set to take place at Place Henry Christophe on Port-au-Prince’s Champ de Mars to demand that the perpetrators of the PetroCaribe corruption scandal be brought to trial.
Recent violent protests in Port-au-Prince and other cities in Haiti have resulted in deaths and injuries. Avoid crowds and protests, as they may quickly turn violent. Limit your movements as much as possible and stock up on essential supplies if safe to do so. We haven't changed the level of our advice. Exercise a high degree of caution in Haiti. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.
