India: Delhi Pollution Levels Deteriorate To 'Hazardous' Category
The US embassy in New Delhi has reported that the air pollution index has breached the 'hazardous' level upper limit, triggering warnings that even healthy people may be at risk of health problems. New Delhi, with a population of 16 million, ranks among the world's most polluted cities. Levels of pollution are expected to rise in the coming days, with smoke from firecrackers celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights, on 7 November.
Those operating or residing in Delhi are advised to be aware of the extremely high levels of air pollution. It is advisable to stay indoors and to avoid outdoor travel in the worst affected areas until the conditions improve, due to the credible risk of adverse health implications as a result of the extreme air pollution. Maintain a flexible itinerary until the conditions improve.
