Be aware of the threat of a terrorist attack on Independence Day

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Smartraveller service has issued updated travel advice to advise; “India commemorates its Independence Day on 15 August. Travellers are reminded that days of national significance can provide an opportunity for terrorist groups to stage an attack. In the past, terrorists have targeted areas frequented by tourists including hotels, markets, tourist sites, transport hubs and public transport networks and religious sites. In December 2016, the US, UK and Israel issued warnings of terror threats to locations including resorts and beaches. Maintain a high level of vigilance in public places. Take local security arrangements into consideration when deciding where to visit. Monitor the media for developments that may affect your safety and security.”
