Indonesia: Aftershocks Continue Following Powerful Earthquake
On 7 July at approximately 2308 LT, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 took place 133 km west of Ternate, North Maluku province in Indonesia. A tsunami early warning was briefly issued following the quake. As of 8 July, aftershocks have continued in the Molucca Sea, with the US Geological Survey (USGS) recording at least nine with magnitudes as large as 5.5. Further aftershocks are likely in the coming hours and days. Associated disruptions, including power outages, transportation disruptions, and infrastructure damage, are possible. Further tsunami warnings cannot be ruled out.
