Iran: Authorities Bolster Security for Presidential and Local Elections
260,000 police officers deployed for elections
Over 260,000 police officers have been deployed at polling booths and voting areas nationwide, as presidential and municipal elections are scheduled to commence.
Those operating or residing in Iran are advised to expect robust security measures and overland travel disruptions near polling booths and electoral infrastructure through 19 May. Authorities are likely to be suspicious of any foreigners, particularly Westerners, who appear to look like they are monitoring, documenting or participating in rallies. Avoid all large gatherings of people due to the credible threat of arrest and detention by security forces.
