Jamaica: State of Emergency Extended
On 9 July, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issued updated travel advice for Jamaica, which reads in part as follows: “The States of Emergency in the parishes of St James (which includes Montego Bay), Hanover and Westmoreland have been extended to 13 August 2019; a State of Emergency is also in place until 21 July in part of the Parish of St Andrew, which includes areas of Kingston.”
Jamaica has one of the world’s highest per capita homicide rates. Avoid travelling in unfamiliar areas, especially at night, and avoid overt displays of wealth. Ensure hotel rooms and residences are securely locked and remain vigilant at all times.
