Kenya: DFAT Issue Updated Travel Advice
On 4 February, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Smartraveller service issued updated travel advice for Kenya. “On 4 February the US Government warned that credible information indicates that westerners may be targeted by extremists in Nairobi, Naivasha, Nanyuki and coastal areas of Kenya. Exercise heightened vigilance in public places such as shopping malls, hotels and places of worship. Exercise a high degree of caution in Kenya overall. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.”
The advice follows a recent al-Shabaab attack on a hotel complex, in which 14 people were killed. Al Shabaab maintain a presence in Kenya and have demonstrated their intent and capability to carry out deadly attacks targeting foreigners. Exercise particular caution in Nairobi and report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities.
