Liberia: Expect Travel Chaos During ECOWAS Special Summit

All flights suspended ahead of ECOWAS Special Summit

On 4 June, Liberian authorities are planning to suspend all flights to and from the country for the duration of the day, as part of security measures designed to ensure the safety of officials travelling to the country for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Special Summit. In addition, between 31 May and 4 June, the Roberts International Airport highway (RIA) will be closed to all heavy vehicles of 10 tons and above. Access to some of the communities near to Monrovia’s Roberts International Airport (GLR/ROB) will also be limited.

Those operating or residing in Liberia are advised to be aware of significant delays to travel on 4 June, due to the ECOWAS Special Summit. Monitor local media for more information and plan your travel accordingly during this time, is some routes will be inaccessible. For example, access to Marshall town via the RIA will be closed to the general public and Charlesville community in Margibi County will not be accessible.
