On 6 July, the US Embassy in Antananarivo issued a security message, advising citizens and travellers to “avoid the Route de Hydrocarbures in Ankorondrano, the Avenue de l’Independence in Analakely, and the surrounding areas in downtown Antananarivo during a planned labour protest on Friday, July 7, 2017…Avoid the vicinity of Mahamasina Stadium and Behoririka in central Antananarivo during a planned political rally on Saturday, July 8, 2017…Exercise caution and avoid large crowds, gatherings, demonstrations or protests, as even peaceful gatherings can escalate into a violent or dangerous situation…Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security."
