A spokesperson for the police has announced that two Turkish nationals have been detained by Malaysian security forces, on suspicion of posing an undisclosed threat to the security of the country. A spokesperson for Human Rights Watch has expressed concern that the men may have been arrested on the orders of the Turkish government and could face extradition. Further information concerning the arrests, including their location, was not immediately available.
Whilst the arrests of the two Turkish nationals is unlikely to affect foreign visitors in Malaysia, travellers are nonetheless advised to remain aware of their surroundings and proceed with vigilance at all times. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities.
