Mali: FCO Issues Updated Travel Advice
Be aware of planned demonstrations in Bamako
On 16 August, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issued updated travel advice for Mali. “Demonstrations are planned in Bamako for several days from Wednesday 16 August 2017. Demonstration dates are subject to change; other demonstrations may be called with little or no notice. There have been reports that a heavy police and security presence is expected. Traffic diversions may be in place in and around the demonstrations. Demonstrations intended to be peaceful can become confrontational and escalate into violence. You should remain vigilant, avoid all demonstrations and monitor local media. If you become aware of any nearby demonstrations, you should leave the area immediately - don’t attempt to watch or photograph it.”
