On 26 June, the US Embassy in Bamako issued a security message, advising of “a continued threat of attacks against Western diplomatic missions, places of worship, and other locations in Bamako frequented by Westerners and other expatriates. These threats are expected to increase during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday. The U.S. Embassy encourages limiting movements within Bamako during this period. Avoid vulnerable locations with poor security measures in place, including hotels, restaurants, and places of worship.”
Those planning to travel to or within Mali are advised to be aware of the heightened threat of Islamic terrorist related violence during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday. It is advisable to avoid all non-essential travel within Mali due to the ongoing threat terrorism and violence. Report any suspicious activity to the authorities, remain vigilant and proceed with extreme caution.
