Morocco: Demonstrators to Stage Sit-in Protest in Casablanca on 23 August
Demonstrators to protest against sexual assault
Demonstrators are expected to stage a sit-in protest against sexual assault at Casablanca’s Place Marechal at 1630 local time on 23 August. The protest was arranged after a video showing a woman being gang raped on a bus, emerged on social media and spread across the city. Moroccan security forces have been known to violently dealt with protesters in the past.
Those operating or residing in Casablanca are advised to anticipate further protests of a similar nature in the near-term. Avoid all large gathers of people are there is a possibility of protest related violence and detention by security forces. Track local media for all updates and remain vigilant.
