Nigeria: Member of House of Representatives Feared Kidnapped
Garba Umar Durbunde missing and feared kidnapped
Garba Umar Durbunde, a member of the Federal House of Representatives in Nigeria, is feared to have been kidnapped along the Abuja-Kano express-way. Policemen have repotedly been dispatched to the area and are searching for the man. Kidnapping is common in Nigeria and last months the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issued updated travel advice to advise that they had received reports to suggest that Boko Haram is actively planning to kidnap western foreigners who are working in Bama Local Government Area of Borno state, along the Kumshe-Banki axis. Military operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa (ISWA) are ongoing but both groups remain a threat to security in the region.
Those operating or residing in Nigeria are advised to be aware of the high threat of kidnap and to avoid all travel to Borno, where Boko Haram are known to operate. If you do decide to travel, remain on high alert and monitor local media for additional security information.
