Pakistan: Taliban Claim Deadly Attack in Lahore
On 8 May, at least 5 people were killed and 24 wounded in Lahore after the Pakistani Taliban carried out an attack. A suspected suicide bombing detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at the entrance to the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore's Daata Ganj Bakhsh Town as hundreds of worshippers were at the shrine. Police and provincial officials have confirmed the deaths of three police officials, a security guard, and one civilian. Emergency responders and security personnel are reportedly at the scene of the bombing and disruptions are expected in the coming hours and days.
Those operating or residing in Pakistan are advised to maintain a heightened sense of security and to take appropriate measures to enhance their personal security at all times, due to the serious threat of terrorist violence, civil unrest and kidnapping across the country. Be aware of the potential for both indiscriminate and planned coordinated terror attacks to take place. Take particular care when in proximity to areas populated with westerners or places of worship.
