Peru: Nationwide Strike Between 7-8 June May Cause Traffic Disruptions
Traffic disruptions possible between 7-8 June
A 24-hour nationwide strike is expected to take place between the 7-8 June in Peru. The strike action has been organised by miners, against the proposed labour standards which are said to diminish workers’ rights. Associated protests may take place, with demonstrators blocking highways and causing disruptions to travel in the affected areas. The Arequipa and Cajamarca regions are expected to be affected.
Those operating or residing in Peru are advised to be aware of possible protests due to strike action. Plot your route to avoid and protest location areas in order to avoid delays to your journey. Avoid all large gatherings of people as even protests expected to remain peaceful can see tension quickly escalate.
