The Union of Aviation Workers and Airports (SITAVA) in Portugal is planning to stage a nationwide strike between 13-18 April. Members of the Union who are employed by Prosegur and Securitas will stage a strike for up to six hours per day, in two hour segments. Related protests are expected to take place on 13 April at Lisbon Portela Airport (LPPT/LIS) and Porto Airport (LPPR/OPO). Throughout the course of the strikes there will likely be disruptions and delays to flight schedules. The national airport authority Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) warned travellers to expect delays, as security checks will take much longer than usual. There will also be an increase in Public Security Police (PSP) forces.
Those planning to fly to or from Portugal are advised to be aware of nationwide strikes between 13-18 April. Reconfirm all flight schedules with booking agents or airline representatives before setting out. Monitor local media for more information concerning any further transport cancellations and follow all directives issued by local authorities.
