Puerto Rico: Police Clash with Protesters Outside of Capitol in San Juan
21 police officers injured in violent clashes with demonstrators
At least 21 police officers have been injured during violent clashes with protesters who attempted to storm the Capitol’s Legislative Assembly in San Juan on 18 April. The clashes unfolded during a demonstration against the elimination of a legislative body that audits public debt. It was not confirmed if there were any injuries inflicted on those protesting.
Further protests in Puerto Rico against the controversial legislative measures and austerity should not be ruled out in the near and medium term. Avoid all large gatherings of people due to the credible risk or protest related violence. Leave the vicinity and seek safe shelter if tensions begin to escalate.
