Following a diplomatic split from many Gulf and Arab countries, Qatar has put its military on high alert and called its 16 leopard tanks into action, warning its neighbours that it will open fire on any ships that come into its waters. The country was isolated from the Gul States over accusations of their alleged support for terrorism. The Qatari government has written to leaders in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) warning that it will respond to any naval threat.
Those operating or residing in the Gulf states are advised to be aware of high tensions with Qatar. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE have given Qatari nationals two weeks to leave their territory. UAE airlines Etihad Airways, Emirates and Flydubai have suspended all flights to and from Qatari territory. The Gulf allies said they had closed their airspace to Qatar Airways. Those who hold a Qatari passport and wish to travel to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, the Maldives, Jordan or Mauritania are advised to seek the advice of consular representations.
