Russia’s Federal Security Service has confirmed that a gunman burst into one of their offices in the Khabarovsk region and killed one of their employees and a visitor. The FSB, the successor organisation to the Soviet KGB, said the attacker had been killed during the offensive. The attacker is said to have been a local resident who belong to a nationalist group. Earlier this month, Russia was targeted by a suicide bomb attack of the St Petersburg metro, which killed 16 people. The suspected suicide bomber and his alleged accomplices were from Central Asia, something rights group feared might provoke a backlash.
Terrorist activity, carried out by both separatist and extremist religious groups and individuals, does pose a risk across Russia. Report any suspicious packages, activity or behaviour to the local authorities and remain vigilant.
