Saudi Arabia: Cholera Cases Reported in Jizan

Use only bottled or treated water for drinking, cooking and hygienic purposes

On 31st August, health officials reported five cases of cholera in Jizan. Local media sources have suggested that the infection was likely brought over by individuals from Yemen who were performing Hajj, where there is a severe outbreak. Yemen’s cholera outbreak has infected some 612,703 people and killed 2,048 since it began in April. All the infected individuals in Jizan are receiving appropriate treatment and the risk of disease spread remains minimal. However, it is still advisable to take the appropriate precautions. Use only bottled or treated water for drinking, cooking and hygienic purposes. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser if soap and water is unavailable. Avoid eating unwashed or unpeeled fruits and vegetables and only eat food that is thoroughly cooked and served hot.
