Saudi Arabia: Houthi Rebels Continue to Launch Drones Towards Airports in Saudi Arabia
On 6 July at approximately 1800 LT, Saudi-led coalition forces reportedly shot down multiple Yemeni Houthi rebel military-grade weaponised drones over the southwest provinces of Jizan and Asir. A coalition statement said, “The drones were destroyed in air space," but did not provide further information as to how many had been intercepted. The Houthis previously claimed on their Almasirah news channel that the Qasef-2K drones were launched against Saudi military targets located Jizan Airport (OEGN/GIZ) and Abha Airport (OEAB/AHB) and resulted in the suspension of air traffic in both airports.
Houthi forces are expected to continue to fire missiles, rockets and drones towards targets in Saudi Arabia. Although successful launches are rare, defence systems should never be viewed as completely reliable due to possible technical faults and the potential for human error. Avoid travelling within 50 miles of the Saudi-Yemen border, including to the cities of Jizan and Najran and Asir.
