Saudi Arabia/Canada: Saudi Arabia Bans Citizens from Receiving Medical Treatment in Canada
In the latest in a series of measures following a diplomatic row with Canada, Saudi Arabia has banned all citizens from receiving medical treatment in Canada. Riyadh also announced that it is coordinating the transfer of all Saudi patients from Canadian hospitals to other medical facilities outside Canada. Yesterday, the Kingdom’s state airline suspended all flights to Toronto. The moves come after Riyadh expelled Canada's ambassador over alleged interference in Saudi domestic affairs after Ottawa's foreign ministry reprimanded Riyadh for jailing human rights activists and called for the immediate release of rights campaigners detained in a recent wave of arrests in Saudi Arabia, including relatives of Canadian citizens. Saudi Arabia also frozen a new trade and investment deal with Canada which was worth billions of dollars and recalled its envoy to the country.
Reconfirm all flight schedules with booking agents or airline representatives before setting out and contact the airline for more information about how your travel plans might be affected by the suspension.
