Senegal: Anti-Government March Planned in Dakar on 8 January
Leaders of the C25 opposition coalition have called for a demonstration to take place in Dakar on Tuesday 8 January, to protest the recent Constitutional Court decision reject their sponsorship ahead of the 24 February Presidential elections. In addition, demonstrators will mass in support of Khalifa Sall, Dakar's former mayor, whose candidacy was dismissed as he is serving a prison sentence for fraud. Sall has been in prison since March 2017 on embezzlement charges. Protesters will gather from 1500 LT in the city, although exact march locations are not yet known. Heightened security measures and traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the demonstration. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
