Senegal: Protests Planned in Dakar on 12 July
On 12 July, civil society groups and the Aar Li Nu Bokk opposition coalition have called for a demonstration in Dakar to denounce President Macky Sall's alleged involvement in a petroleum sector corruption scandal and to call for greater transparency in government efforts to exploit the country's natural resources. Protesters are expected to gather in front of the Amadou Barry stadium, located in the Guediawaye district of Dakar between 1500-1800 LT. Related protests may be held in other urban centres.
A heightened security presence and local disruptions to overland traffic should be anticipated near all protest sites. Clashes between amongst protesters and with security forces, cannot be ruled out. Similar protests are possible over the coming weeks. Plan your travel accordingly during this time.
