Somalia: 4 Killed in al-Shabaab Attack
On 7 March, at least 4 people were killed and 9 injured after a car bomb detonated at a security checkpoint near several restaurants and tea shops in central Mogadishu, not far from the presidential palace. Several vehicles and buildings were damaged. The car bomb appears to have been parked and detonated remotely. Security forces have arrested the suspected driver of the car. Islamist militant group al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Avoid travel to Somalia. For any business-critical travel, travellers are advised to vary their routines regularly and avoid all travel after dark. Al-Shabaab and other Islamic extremists frequently carry out attacks and kidnap travellers. Attacks are generally directed at security force checkpoints, government buildings, police stations and hotels. Exercise particular caution in and around these areas and report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities.
