Somalia: Al Shabaab Responsible for Mogadishu Attacks
On 6 November, at least one person was killed after al Shabaab militants detonated two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) near an African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) convoy in Mogadishu. Following the detonations, AMISOM troops killed four civilians in a gunfight with suspected Al-Shabaab militants, according to local reports. Local press and social media have referred to the deaths as executions. Local residents protested against the deaths later in the day.
Avoid travel to Somalia. For any business-critical travel, travellers are advised to vary their routines regularly and avoid all travel after dark. Al-Shabaab and other Islamic extremists frequently carry out attacks and kidnap travellers. Attacks are generally directed at security force checkpoints, government buildings, police stations and hotels. Exercise particular caution in and around these areas and report any suspicious packages, behaviour or activity to the authorities.
