Taxi drivers have launched an illegal strike and temporarily blocked vehicle access to all routes leading from Mabopane to the R80 Highway, paralysing traffic. Metrorail services were also affected, leading to the temporary suspension of services in the north-east. Drivers are expected to end their march at central Pretoria’s Tshwane House.
Those operating or residing in Pretoria are advised to anticipate heightened security and related traffic disruptions throughout the day as protests take place. Plot your travel route to bypass the area and allow additional time for travel if this is not possible. Avoid all large gatherings due to the credible threat of protest-related violence. Seek safe shelter if tensions further escalate.
