Early reports have outlined that a vehicle has ploughed into a crowd of people in the Ramblas tourist area in Barcelona. Tourists and citizens have been told to avoid the area as emergency services react to a “serious incident”. Nearby metro lines have been temporarily shut and people have been advised against travelling to Placa Catalunya. Several people have been injured. Spanish authorities are looking for the driver of the vehicle, who is said to have escaped on foot.
There are also reports of two armed men with hostages at a restaurant near Las Ramblas in Barcelona.
Two peolpe are said to have been killed and up to 20 injured.
Police have labelled the incident a terrorist attack.
