Sri Lanka: Doctors Stage Nationwide Strike Action
GMOA announces nationwide strike action
The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) representing doctors at public hospitals, has launched nationwide strike action from 08:00 local time, in protest against police firing tear gas and water cannons at demonstrating university students at Colombo’s Health Ministry on 21 June. Local sources have reported that the Children’s Hospital, Maternity Hospitals and the Cancer Hospital have/will not be affected by the strike.
Those operating or residing in Sri Lanka are advised to expect disruptions to health care facilities, as doctors in the country plan to strike in public hospitals. Be aware of a decreased service and make the necessary arrangements for care if you fall sick.
