Sudan: Nationwide Commemorative Events Planned on 13 July
On 13 July, a series of commemorative events are planned to take place across Sudan to remember those killed in recent protests. The largest gatherings are expected in Khartoum and its twin city Omdurman, where protests are possible in tandem. A heightened security presence and local disruptions to overland travel should be anticipated in the vicinity of all protest locations.
Those who wish to travel in Sudan are advised to be aware that security forces are unable to guarantee the safety of travellers across much of the country. Heightened security measures and associated transportation disruptions are to be expected nationwide, notably in the capital Khartoum and its twin city Omdurman. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. A resumption of internet service and telecommunication disruptions are possible. Avoid all large gathering and observe local curfews. For essential travel, travel in convoy and with an embassy approved security escort. Proceed with extreme caution. Further protests are likely in the coming days and weeks.
