Sudan: Police Fire Tear Gas as Anti-Government Protests Continue
On 4 February, police forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters in Khartoum and its twin city Omdurman, after large crowds rallied to demonstrate against the government. Anti-government protests have now entered their seventh consecutive week, with locals calling for President Omar al-Bashir to step down. Further protests are scheduled to take place on 7 February in the capital.
Those who wish to travel in Sudan are advised to be aware that security forces are unable to guarantee the safety of travellers across much of the country. Avoid all large gathering and observe local curfews. For essential travel, travel in convoy and with an embassy approved security escort. Proceed with extreme caution.
