Russia’s Ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinsky, has been found dead in his residence in Khartoum. Shirinsky is now the fourth Russian diplomat to have died since January 2017. Sudanese police have ruled out the possibility of an assassination attempt. Officials have suggested that the evidence implies that the diplomat’s death was natural and possibly resulting from a heart attack. Doctors were called to the scene but they did not manage to save his life. Sudanese officials have taken Shirinsky’s body to a morgue in the capital and are awaiting instructions from the Russian foreign ministry.
