Thailand: Foreign Tourist Killed in Bangkok
On 7 October, a shooting near Centrara Watergate Pavillion Hotel in Ratchathewi district's Pratunam neighbourhood in central Bangkok resulted in the death of one foreign tourist and the injury of four others. The incident unfolded after a dispute in a nearby bar around 20:30 local time escalated between two groups of young men and led to a shooting. Stray bullets from automatic weapons hit members of a tour group, resulting in the death.
The incident is being treated an isolated incident. Violent crime, particularly that targeting foreign tourists, remains low. Non-confrontational crime and crimes of opportunity are more common. The US Department of State continues to classify the city as "low-threat”.
