Turkey: Germany Warns Citizens of Dangers Involved with Travel in Turkey
On 9 March, Germany updated its travel advice for Turkey, warning citizens of the risk of arrest and detention due to issues pertaining to freedom of expression and affiliation. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that arbitrary detention of German nationals has increased in the past two years, especially for German citizens who are affiliated with the Gülen movement, including sharing social media posts critical of the Turkish government. The German government also warned that citizens, particularly journalists, may be refused entry. More information may be found on the Ministry of Affairs website.
